…go rent “The Visitor.” I meant to see this when it was in the theaters, but it was in Hartford for about a minute and I missed it. None of my friends saw it, either, and I want someone to watch it so we can talk about it.
It’s been a while since I saw such an effective, moving film. The relationships that form between the most unlikely people are stunning. Did the scene in the airport kill you? The subway scene there at the end, too? Will these people ever meet again? I’m ready for “Visitor II,” or “They Visit Again.”
Go get it. Do it now. Then get back to me, please.

Tom & I saw it on DVD about three months ago and were captivated and deeply moved.
Richard Jenkins (the professor and who was the dad in the “Six Feet Under” series) was outstanding as the quiet introverted bookish type who comes out of his shell in unexpected ways when faced with a man and a woman so completely foreign, in every way, to him.
LOVED IT!!
And, yes, we had the same reactions you did to all of those scenes and would love to see a sequel.
I don’t want to say too much here, because it would spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it, but who wants to do so. And you ALL should see it.
It really challenged our thinking about how we might or might not relate with strangers from totally different backgrounds and Tom and I talked about it at great length. It was a heartwarming and heartbreaking story in so many ways.
But, seeing the professor sitting there in the park at the end was just superb. We want more! Yes!

P. S. Jenkins was also in “Burn After Reading” this past year, which you MUST see, too. It is absolutely hilarious. We went to see it in the theater, which we rarely do, but now want to see it again on DVD and it’s coming out this next week, I believe. See it and then we can talk about that one, too.
That’s so funny that you would say see “Burn After Reading.” I was raving about “The Visitor” at work, and a friend who reviews DVDs handed me “Burn,” which I will watch tonight. Wahoo! A movie club, courtesy of Dating Jesus! Thanks, Dee.
The friend with whom I watched “The Visitor” was crushed when Our Hero didn’t end up with The Mother. But then my friend is a hopeless romantic.
The airport scene killed me (even though…), the subway scene didn’t. I thought that was kind of corny. Maybe if the last scene had been at the big park drum-in, it might’ve felt more … natural.
I agree that any other ending would have been too schmaltzy, if that’s how you speel that. But I stand by my original statement: LOVED the subway scene — but then, I am incredibly manipulated. Manipulatible. Anywhoo…
Burn After Reading is already out on DVD, and it is indeed hilarious. Let me know what you think. Now I must go find The Visitor based on these raves!
