Is Mark Sanford’s infidelity more acceptable because he loves his girlfriend?

At his press conference last week, the South Carolina governor said he was still in love with his girlfriend, and that the relationship was not over.

And that’s new.

But does that make his infidelity O.K.? Or at least a little more understandable?

  1. Falling in love takes some cultivation. In that way, it’s worse, it’s a betrayal on many levels. But part of me feels like maybe I’d be relieved. At least this way I’m not left having to decide if we should work it out. He’s out, no question, grieve and move on.

    • That would be my plan, yes, but I can’t decide if I’d prefer my partner to have fallen in love, or to have had loveless sex. Either way, pal, I’m one angry spousal unit.
