We’ve got Jack Horner up here at The Museum of the Rockies, (the guy who got the dinosaurs tails out of the mud, proved dinosaurs worked in groups, raised their young…), I’ve been trying to find a statement from him on the new “Creationist Sciences,” but I haven’t been successful. He’s probably too busy in more serious scientific study.
You have to give them credit for imagination, though.

Oooh, if you find that quote, share it.

…from an interview with Dan Scneider in ‘07…..
” ID [Intelligent Design] will be used to debate Darwinian theories as long as there are scientists who want to debate. If we scientists made a stronger stand on the principles of scientific process rather than scientific “facts,” I imagine the idiocy of the ID side of the debate would become exposed. A good scientific hypothesis is testable, and based on physical evidence. There is neither physical evidence to support ID, nor is it testable. It’s all just a bunch of crap, or pseudoscience at its best. ”
        …and from the same interview…
“I think everything is knowable. I feel some sorrow for people who put limits on their imaginations, or who give away to this godhead, their potential powers to perceive the unknown. I don’t understand why the unknown is so frightening to these people, when it holds such a great potential for exciting discovery. This fear they harbor, rather than the anticipation of discovery is probably what sets them apart from us. And, apparently there are a whole lot less of us than them.”

The whole interview is interesting. There’s not much out there by way of interviews, but his point of view is unique in that he challenged “conventional” wisdom and science in his own career, and for awhile was derided for it. Now he’s The Man. And from Shelby, too.

1.) I love the fact that I clicked on that link just to make sure this wasn’t in Arkansas. Humiliation averted.

2.) Looking at the website, can I just say they have some really pretty stuff on that site? Like, that background is gorgeous, and that photo in the header of the planet is so artful, I want to steal their idea.

3.) As for that other header photo of the people smiling amongst the flowers, I love the fact that when I first looked at it, I thought it was a gay couple.

To be honest, I made sure it wasn’t in Missouri, myself. And what if it WAS a gay couple?

I think it was a man and his father, considering the ages. Maybe the womenfolk wandered off to chat with Eve and the Tryceratops.

No, that museum is in my neck of the woods. But for the grace of God it was built after I was out of school or I KNOW we would have gone.

Any one who says “just a bunch of crap” automatically has my attention, and the idea that everything is knowable is every bit as appealing to me.

Especially when it’s a respected person in the field.

Everything IS knowable. We need to “see”, not just “observe.”
