“the Church and her priests are being unfairly and incessantly targeted for what is actually a massive societal problem”
Lori has such a way with words. What is the “massive societal problem” to which he refers, I wonder?
Where’d my comment go, d’ya think? What I said was maybe Lori is referring to pedophilia, and saying we should leave the Catholic church alone because everyone’s doing it?
Shootin’ blanks, big guy….
You know, there’s at least three people I know of who would offer up a resounding “hallelujah and Amen!” after hearing that…..
Well, I tried twice to comment here….but nothing appears….maybe it will magically appear later….
(Try again…..)
I know I’ve said this before, too…..
Abuse Tracker, a blog by Kathy Shaw is an excellent resource for media reports on this subject.
It’s part of BishopAccountability.org, a resource database with a wealth of information on the issue of sexual abuse by clergy. It’s there one can discover that clerical abuse is not confined solely to priests, but includes nuns as well.
SNAP is also an excellent resource.
….Victory….take that WordPress!
SNAP rocks.
You’re on super-secret probation. Oh, crap! I wasn’t supposed to tell you. Now it’s not secret any more.
Abuse happens across all denominations and in the independent churches (which often have little accountability).
Episcopal clergy and some laypersons with responsibility, such as choir directors, must complete four hours of training on adult abuse and four hours on children and youth abuse. A cleric transferring to another diocese generally must present the certificates.
It’s not necessarily the abuse that stands out in a world filled with sex abuse, it’s the hiding of the abuse, it’s how the church allowed the abuse to continue by transferring accused priests. It’s the entire church involving itself in a conspiracy of continuing abuse and hypocrisy.
Amen.
