  1. They came first for the people who drove Toyota Prius (Jay, did you know that Toyota claims that Prius is both singular and plural?) and didn’t speak because I drive a Camry.

Then they came for the vegans and animal lovers (and while I was a vegetarian for five years…I grew up and now enjoy red meat very, very, rare and wear leather Timberline boots) and I didn’t speak because who doesn’t love a juicy rare steak and the quality of Timberline?

Then they came for the rating-less and talent-less radio, and I didn’t speak because nobody misses Air America.

Then they came for the Democrat organization that gave advice to pimps and prostitutes and I didn’t speak because I never respected ACORN.

Then they came for Republicans, and all I said was wait until November 2, 2010 when the adults will be back in charge.

    • This is almost funny in places.

    • A couple of those “rating-less and talent-less radio” folk from Air America are now in the Senate (Al Franken) or have their own TV program (Rachel Maddow).

      Just saying.

      • Gina-

How is Maddow’s network doing compared to….that Fair and Balanced network? While Rachel’s mom loves her daughter very much…even she can only watch MSNBC for just a handful of minutes before she too switches to FOX.

Funny how Air America fans are so quick to slam Rush, yet any of the Air America “talent” would have loved to have had only a fraction of Rush’s numbers. Facts are facts.

        • Todd, if everyone jumped off a cliff, would you jump, too? My own bankrupt newspaper in a dying industry is hemorrhaging readership and we need to pay attention to what the readers want and provide them with that, but if it’s more “American Idol” horseshit, I’m outta there.

        • Just out of curiosity, Todd, do you believe that Fox is “Fair and Balanced?” Just asking.

Oh, and vegetarians aren’t grown-ups? Just asking again.

          • With my hand on my bible…yes I do think that Fox is much more fair than the other networks. I guess I am not the only person that thinks so. Cynical, you and I are both old enough to remember when being a Big Three network newscaster was a big deal…currently, who even pays attention to the 6:30 national news on CBS, ABC, NBC? IMHO.

  2. Susan…how is what I wrote above about the Courant? I like the Courant…the hard copy and the internet version. I am not a fan of MSNBC-but is anybody?

  3. Carol the longwinded

Appealing to the lowest common denominator often makes things popular. Weeping liars seem to be one of those.

  4. Nice try CTLW,

Sorry, Beck has never been somebody that I have supported, actually Beck made a name for himself on the Clinton News Network.

I teach math, and the lowest common denominator helped elect President Nobel Peace Prize. Don’t worry Carol…common sense will win out come November of 2010 and 2012.

    • “I teach math, and the lowest common denominator helped elect President Nobel Peace Prize. ”

Okay, teach, please explain this statement. It isn’t making sense to me. What is / who are the lowest common denominator?

      • LCD is the sheep who bought into all of the “Hope and Change” and voted and marched in lockstep with the great Obama.

After November 2 of this year things will get better…and I suspect our young president will show everyone just how thin his skin is. Obama is going to be the next Jimmy “one termer” Carter. Cynical, if you send cash to Dems-send your dough to Hillary 2012…don’t laugh…it’s happened before- (Uncle Teddy vs. Carter in 1980) and I have a pound of bacon and some scones that it’s going to happen again.

        • “LCD is the sheep who bought into all of the “Hope and Change” and voted and marched in lockstep with the great Obama.”

One More Time, Todd: voting for someone doesn’t not assure that the voter is marching in lockstep with a candidate. I’d bet it generally means that the voter finds that candidate to have more positive than negative aspects.

          Signed, Ms. Sheep

Oh, and you forgot to add IMHO to your Statement of Opinion.

          • I agree Cynical,

In your heart of hearts…do you think that I was happy with Bush the last two years he was in office? He, like Obama, promised much, and came very short. Bush was certainly no Reagan-that’s for sure. It took six years to figure out Bush…it has taken only a handful of months to figure out what a BS artist Obama is…November will be a huge slap to Obama. If you think he’s been testy to the press lately…just wait. Hillary is SO looking over our young President’s shoulder. Hillary is licking her chops.

  5. Carol the longwinded

I wasn’t aware I was specifying you, Todd, bt merely Fox News watchers.

You were speaking about Fox News in general, Todd and implying strongly that is the station you watch, while similarly implying that Rachel Maddow is not watched because no one is a fan of her’s nor watchs MSNBC. Now, , if you say you watch Fox news and do not exclude watching Mr. Beck, then you are a fan of Mr. Beck, unless you specifically say you do not. Which you did not. And then there was a lot of palaver about Rush which also implies enjoying Rush (another low common denominating liar.)
And popularity is no proof of truth as your example of Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize demonstrates.

FWIW, I watch neither program as we do not generally watch broadcast shows (since we don’t have cable) I get all of my news from NPR, and I follow various issues closely via newspapers and other venues. I can not STAND Hate-riot radio or tv. Its tearing this country apart.

    • Carol,

You give talk radio too much credit. It’s not talk radio that is dragging this country down…it’s the Saul Alinsky Rules for Radicals President that we have that is dragging the country down.

    • Carol, I agree completely. Hate radio is a scourge. It breeds only fear, hate and violence.

      • Mario Saccoccio

Yes, however, “Air America” is off the air now, so the “Fear, hate and violence” generator is gone!

    • Mario Saccoccio

“I can not STAND Hate-riot radio or tv. Its tearing this country apart.”

You have never watched the Fox news channel, nor any of its news or opinion shows, but you know that it is Bad. Interesting. Do you have XM or Sirius radio and listen to any liberal or conservative broadcasts? I do. I listen to Sirius left, (I like Lynn Samuals, even though she is a liberal weenie) Sirius right and Sirius Patriot programs. I also listen to BBC news and of course, all the Comedy channels.
Besides, open and honest political debate cannot Tear this Country apart, but can only make it better.

      • Mario,

Hate is still hate! The King of Hate Radio Rush Limbaugh has had the EIB Cure-A-Thon for the past 20 years. This hateful man even made a personal donation of $400, 000! I guess he simply hates leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.

        • Todd, why doesn’t Mario have to add IMHO to his statements?

I don’t know if Rush is as hate-filled as he sounds, but I do believe that he’s highly manipulative and will say whatever he thinks will amp up his listenership, even changing the context of his statements within a show. And it’s easy enough to give a lot of money when you have a lot of money — that doesn’t mean he’s a sweetheart.

          • Unreal! IMHO. Cynical…you can’t even give Rush a simple…”well that was nice of him” for his generous donation and the work he does for the EIB Cure-A-Thon? You know how I feel about President Obama…and even I wrote that it was a classy thing he did when he donated his Nobel Peace Prize money to charity.

Cynical…there you go again playing bossy-boss. If my friend Mario wants to add IMHO to his posts-that’s his call. He is a grown man, and I would never, ever tell a grown man what he can and cannot do…IMHO.

            • And there you have it. Todd is more than happy to tell the women folk what they should and should not be saying. But he’d never presume to tell a man something.

              • Ah, great minds, Vegas. I’ve often (silently) noted that. Todd picks on Jay, “humorously,” for spelling issues from time to time, RARELY challenges Leftover even though Leftover took him apart a while back, and even when Mario isn’t on the same page as Todd, Todd will not challenge him. Very interesting.

              • Mario Saccoccio

“…he’d never presume to tell a man something.”

                That’s just not true, Vegas.
Why, one evening, Todd told me to try Hooter’s fried shrimp, so I did.

                • Divert, deflect, and ridicule. What a play-book.

                • Mario!

We need another boys’ night out…not that I am telling you what to do-but I’d love to meet you for some shrimp and wings. How about this? You tell me what night works for you, and I’ll let you boss me around…

                  • Mario Saccoccio

                    Hey, bossey!
I thought we were going out after my game in your area? Wings at Timmy’s sound good to me!
                    I might even have a Sam’s!

              • First off Vegas 710…or whatever pseudonym you hide behind… I have never, nor would I ever tell the “women folk” here what to do. Now that I think about it…perhaps I treat Jay, Mario, and Susan a little differently than I do you and Cynical…maybe because all three of them are always fair, funny, and ummmmm, because they have the cojones to actually use their real names. I’d have a ball on this site if I came on as Atlantic City 733, or Doubtful Debbie… or even if I pulled a Wally Lamb and wrote my narrative in female’s voice like he did in “She’s Come Undone.” Just because we disagree, that does not mean that I have ever told you what to do…just like Mario…you are a grown adult and while you enjoy using childish words such as “crap” and “gross” that’s your call, not mine.

Asking you if you have ever attended a tea party is simply that. I don’t recall ever telling you to attend one.

Are you certain that you didn’t minor in theatre while in college? You certainly are quite the drama queen today!

                • Todd: People are welcome here whatever name they use, so long as it’s not vulgar or intimidating to others. You haven’t a clue why people use screen names, but it hardly constitutes hiding behind anything. Sometimes, people use screen names for security reasons, so try to have a little understanding.

Beyond that, this is my blog and my rules and people are free to use the names they want without judgment. It’s obvious you have a problem with that, but I do not have, so back away from this.

                  • Mario Saccoccio

Sorry, Todd, but I agree with Deege on this one.
I have used other names, such as “Hatfez” on some sports blogs. Folks here should be free to use any name they wish, with the possible exception of using the name “John Q. Smith.”
If you think that the folks on this blog are bad, try to have an honest, frank discussion on some sports sites.
Besides, I don’t believe that Jay is really using his real name. I have reason to believe that his name really is John Q. Smith.

                    • Do I need to add that I’m the only one here that uses a picture of myself?
                      This is getting old.

                    • Mario Saccoccio

                      Me too!

                    • mariosaccoccio

Actually, when my gray locks were in a pony-tail a few years ago, friends called me “George Washington.” The guy in my Gravatar is actually Thomas Jefferson.

                    • Are you familiar with “Second Life?” I only just stumbled onto it. I am not a participant, but it is freaky. IMHO.

                      Wait. I’m not humble.

                    • If Mario agrees with me, I can’t be right.

                      I kid! I kid because I love!

            • “…there you go again playing bossy-boss. If my friend Mario wants to add IMHO to his posts-that’s his call. He is a grown man, and I would never, ever tell a grown man what he can and cannot do…IMHO.”

But you took me, a grown woman, to task for making statements that you said should have been identified as opinion but that you said I stated as if they were fact.

              Pretty inconsistent, IMHO.

          • Mario Saccoccio

“Todd, why doesn’t Mario have to add IMHO to his statements?”
Unless I use quotes, or address a statement as belonging to someone else, all I say here is my opinion.
            Besides, I’m not that humble.

      • I cut my teeth on Rush Limbaugh and even saw him in person. His name-calling is too much for me. But I also don’t watch KO or Maher because I can’t stand hate speech in any form. It’s not open and honest, far from it.
Google around a bit and you will find how many lies Rush and Beck are telling. It’s all done to stir up fear which leads to anger. All in the name of profit. $400K? That’s nothing to Rush.

        • Mario Saccoccio

“…lies Rush and Beck are telling.”

The other day I heard Bill Press on his radio program, telling us how wonderful it was that GM “paid back their loans with interest.”
So I wondered just how could GM, which posted a Q1 market share of 18.7%, down 1 point from 2009, pay back around 6 billion?
Well, the answer is in two parts. First, GM “borrowed” 61.5 billion from the USA and Canada. So how is paying back 8 billion, or 13% be a payback? It is not. Where is our money?
Second, GM cut the jobs of 65,000 workers along with their pensions, to “payback” the loan.
Creative accounting is just another way of lying.
Press knows that GM neither paid back the money we taxpayers gave to them, even without interest. Bill Press lied.
Now, show me where Beck lied.
I may only have the perspective of a “small businessman,” but I know a “snow job” when I see one.

          • I don’t know who that is or what it has to do with this conversation.
I’ll be glad to provide the numerous links to his lies later today when I have more time. I’m headed out the door to PT.

            • Mario Saccoccio

When I was young, PT meant “Party Time!” Have fun!
Bill Press is a liberal radio talk show host on the “Sirius left” channel.

          • I mean, you don’t have to be a socialist, I guess, to believe in global warming. It’s just that almost everyone who does believe in global warming is a socialist. I mean, believes in manmade global warming that now can be fixed and reversed or whatever. 1/12/09

Obama is against direct reparations for one reason. He doesn’t ever want the victim card to be lost. In 2004 he wrote, “I fear that reparations would be an excuse for some to say we’ve paid our debt and then avoid the much harder work.” What is the harder work? What is the harder work? You don’t want the debt paid because you don’t ever want the leverage gone. The debt can never be paid. Instead he has a better idea. Universal healthcare and that’s just the beginning. That’s only one piece. Universal healthcare.
            7/23/09

And just in general: That health care reform is a socialist plot, that health care reform will eliminate Medicare. I’m rushed but I can certainly get the dates, as that first one is kind of a universal, evergreen message. Look, the guy’s an entertainer but his show is like giving a lit match to a baby sitting on a gas can.

  6. I have yet to read about any of the MSNBC “talent” having cure-a-thon for anything… plus with their paltry ratings I’ll bet nobody there is in the position to donate anything even close to $400 large. How do you know that 400K is nothing to Rush? Are you his accountant? Financial planner?

Robin of Berkeley has a very good essay about AZ border situation.

    http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/04/the_obama_syndrome_1.html

    • I think it’s admirable that Rush gives his money toward this worthy cause. But that hardly erases the years of nonsense he’s put out there. I mean, he still says stupid, stupid stuff, so I can applaud his generosity — in whatever form — and still avoid him because he’s a tool.

  7. “How do you know that 400K is nothing to Rush? Are you his accountant? Financial planner?”

    Yes, and we’re very close.

Come on Todd, you know that he makes millions and millions each year and has at least a couple of homes. A $400K donation probably doesn’t pinch him as much as the donations given by most of us on this blog pinch us.

    • IMHO, I suspect that Rush gives plenty of money to other causes besides his EIB Cure-A-Thon.

Funny, he earned the money-shouldn’t he be the one who decides where and how much he chooses to donate?

Plus, Rush is in that tax bracket where he is lucky if he gets to keep even half of what he earns…and I know half of zillion dollars is still plenty-but there’s no law that states he even has to donate the 400K.
      IMHO

      • “Funny, he earned the money-shouldn’t he be the one who decides where and how much he chooses to donate?”

That’s NOT the point. Of COURSE he decides where he donates. But you suggested that because he donates, he’s not hateful, and I don’t think (IMHO alert!) that that’s a reasonable assumption.

        • Mario Saccoccio

“But you suggested that because he donates, he’s not hateful,”
I’m dizzy from searching up and down this thread trying to find just where Todd “suggested” anything.
Rush donates lots of him income in taxes and he also donates to support charities. Just like me, however on a grander scale, to say the least.
That doesn’t mean that I don’t say hateful things.
          Especially about the Red Sox.

      • “Rush is in that tax bracket where he is lucky if he gets to keep even half of what he earns”

You have no earthly idea how much Rush pays in federal income taxes.

        IMHO.

        • Mario Saccoccio

I do. He has said it on his radio program, many times. Oh, wait. He’s “a liar,” so it can’t be true.

  8. Tea Party logic:

“Giving to charity is a good thing.
    Rush Limbaugh gives to charity.
Therefore Rush Limbaugh is not a hateful person.”

    Another example:

    “All dogs have 4 legs.
    I have a dog.
    Therefore I have 4 legs.”

PLEASE tell me that none of these people are aeronautical engineers.

And why have we still not heard from the Tea Party about the financial reform bill?

    IMHO.

    • Mario Saccoccio

“And why have we still not heard from the Tea Party about the financial reform bill?”

Ughhhh, because you only get your news from NPR?

      • “you only get your news from NPR?”

Nope, not at all. I get my news from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report and the New York Times and the Dating Jesus blog. If the Tea Party had made a statement about financial reform, I would know about it.

        IMHO.

        • The Daily Show and Colbert Report are both shows on which network? Oh yeah Comedy Central. The NY Times…is that the same once proud newspaper that hired Jayson Blair? You remember Blair don’t you? Maybe Comedy Central ran a hard-hitting piece on Blair’s plagiarism and all of his fabrications while he “reported” for the NYT.

Do you honestly not get that The Daily Show is a show looking for yucks?

          Anti-Tea Party Logic:

          I care about everybody…even illegals
I watch Comedy Central for the news
          Therefore…I am informed!

          IMHO

          • Do you honestly not get that I don’t get that these are comedy shows?

Do you get that Limbaugh and Beck and Hannity and Palin are also entertainers?

            IMHO.

          • Yes, let’s dismiss the NYT because they once employed a plagiarist/fabricator among their hundreds of writers.

Let’s also dismiss the GOP because they once employed Richard Nixon as their selected representative and leader.

Why do you pretend to be such an idiot? (I’m assuming you’re pretending.) It’s tiresome.

          • Repeat after me: Deflect, divert, ridicule.

Now you’ve learned Todd’s rules of engagement.

            IMHO.

            • Sadly, he’s just hewing to the Frank Luntz rule book.

              IMHO.

              • Exactly. Which is why I can’t understand why you smart, savvy women continue to engage in “debate” with someone who respects neither you nor your arguments. It seems a poor outlet for your wit, intelligence and energies.

Why not ignore him and his repetitive talking points: “young President”, “Fred Phelps the Democrat”, “grownups will be back in charge”, the token black tea-partier he keeps trotting out, etc.? Really, I am almost nauseated reading some of the exchanges here. Why allow yourselves to be drawn out by his nonsense?

                • I know it’s not a real debate. I think it’s good to keep up with what the Tea Partyers and the Republican’ts think they think and think they know.

                  • “I think it’s good to keep up with … the Tea Partyers and the Republican’ts ”

Sharon, try this instead, the “We watch FOX so you don’t have to” site: http://www.newshounds.us/

It’s not as if Todd even presents the TP or GOP viewpoints well. His posts seem to be primarily rehashes of his favorite taunts and jabs mingled with irrelevant factoids. (Ooh, Rush gave a week’s pocket change to his favorite charity! Whoop-de-do.)

And Todd, if you read this: Bite me.

                • “Which is why I can’t understand why you smart, savvy women continue to engage in “debate” with someone who respects neither you nor your arguments. It seems a poor outlet for your wit, intelligence and energies.

“Why not ignore him and his repetitive talking points:… ”

Zeus knows I try. Each time I read one of his screeds I say “no, do not respond. No, do NOT respond.” And sometimes I listen to myself. But sometimes I somehow think I can get him to answer a real question or acknowledge the validity of an opposing opinion instead of his lurching off into a diversionary rant. His attitudes about women bother me and I hope to at least get him to look at why they’re insulting.

It also surprises me that he finds certain words, when used by me or Vegas or whoever, to be childish or common or indicative of bad character, yet will not take DJ to task for using the same language and setting the (lively unpretentious) tone here. I keep thinking he’ll pay attention and — y’know — get it.

AND I have at least twice said pretty much what DJ said about screen names — we’ll see if he acknowledges HER objection to his negativity about them.

                  • This is just what I was thinking. I wasn’t sure how to respond. But you hit it right on. I try. I KNOW I should leave it alone. But I can’t. Once I emotionally separated from the whole thing it kinda got fun.
Honestly, what I really wonder is why HE sticks around.

                    • Partly it’s a spoof, just to annoy. He pretends to be one of the 5 or 6 people on the planet who idolize Nixon, yet he can’t possibly have any first-hand memory of him or of what he did to this country and to the office of President.

And partly, I think he really believes that if he just keeps cutting and pasting articles, and confronting us with inconsistencies and missteps from the Dems–because Zeus knows the Repubs present a united front on every issue, even when confronted with facts to the contrary–and dodging real questions and occasionally insulting our intelligence, that eventually we will see the light and he will win us to the side of Truth and Good and we will all go to tea party rallies and vote republican.

                    • mariosaccoccio

“he can’t possibly have any first-hand memory of him or of what he did to this country and to the office of President.”

I have no first-hand memory of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington or John Adams, for that matter. Yet I know what they did for this country and the office of the President.
I think I will wear my “The original angry mob” T-shirt that has the pictures of 8 of the founding fathers on it.
                      See, that’s also humor!
                      If you say so…

                  • Because DJ is a great and powerful force in his life?

                    Nah. That can’t be it.

                    • Cynical Susan

It COULD be. But I think it might also be the fact that you could block him from being able to play his little games here.

                  • “Each time I read one of his screeds I say “no, do not respond. No, do NOT respond.”

CS, maybe the following will strengthen your resolve. Since Todd is so proud of using his real name, I googled it, and sure enough, he slings the same BS on other forums, too. Here he takes on a Courant editorial cartoonist, who after a couple exchanges like the ones we’re all too familiar with, says this: “Todd Zaino, you’re forty-five? I’m 64 and am not spending another second of the precious time I have left on you. See ya.”

Read more of Todd’s stuff and nonsense here:
                    http://blogs.courant.com/bob_englehart/2010/01/january-5-2010.html

And then go draw a cartoon or something with the time and energy you would have wasted on a fruitless exchange with him.

                    • Yep, that’s our boy! I’m only 59, but I’m going to follow Bob Englehart’s example.

                    • I’m loving that Jim I guy. He doesn’t play around. Seeing Todd’s true colors, what I suspected anyway, makes it much easier to ignore him. It really does give him semi-troll status.
                      IMHO

                    • Gina!

Did you honesty take the time to google me!? I am truly touched. I started to return the favor right back to you…but do know just how many women go back that name?

Have a great life Gina, I’ll truly miss the back and forth with you…I’ll be thinking of you on November 2, 2010 as well as Jan of 2013!

                • I decided to stop after one verbal encounter. I can’t explain why at the moment or in this forum, but I’m already working on a creative piece about it, about my feelings during those types of encounters with men. Sorry to be so cryptic. Just saying, Gina, that I understand what you’re saying, and I took your advice before you gave it. :) However, I know where the others are coming from, too, and it’s good to take a stand and hold your ground at times. It’s part of why they are witty, intelligent, energetic women, and it’s why I like them!

                  • I’ll be very interested in what you are creating. Sometimes I buy into the game and start tossing stuff back and forth. None of which I expect him to listen to but there have been a few moments when I have been very clear about how the things being said make me feel. IMO, if I tell someone that what they say triggers me and it’s harmful to me and they disregard that? It’s cruel and not the kind of person I should entertain.
                    So I’m done.

                  • SS, I’m glad your energies are going elsewhere.

Are you knitting a humorous cummerbund, perchance? ;-)

[Obscure George Carlin reference - sorry.]

  9. “Second Life?”

I tried it a couple of years ago, but my computer didn’t really have enough horsepower to handle it well. I spent about an hour trying to move my avatar and get it dressed, and then I quit. Real life’s too short. But I do know of people in the library segment of cyberspace who think it’s the bee’s knees.

    • I’m finding I know more people involved with it than I would have thought. I’m not involved, as I can barely keep track of my First Life.

  10. Mario wrote: “I have no first-hand memory of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington or John Adams, for that matter. Yet I know what they did for this country and the office of the President.”

So you’re suggesting that Todd admires Nixon for his efforts in civil rights, environmental issues, and detente with China, and we should all just expunge the history of the second half of his term of office from our memories and our history books?

    • mariosaccoccio

Yes, you got it. That is exactly what I meant!
Kinda like what many people do about Bill Clinton’s years in office.
      HAHAHA! More humor!

    • sharon with the lower-case “s”

As much as I admire and respect Mario…he’s not my spokesman. Take the time and read a few books on Nixon-you might learn that he wasn’t as bad as you think.

Since when does someone have to be alive during a historical person’s life or movement to have knowledge about it? Both of my sons love The Who, The Stones, and other bands that were around long before they were born. I don’t get that comment about how I could possibly have feeling for RMN. Besides, I was very much alive while he was POUS.
