Let’s talk about (safe) sex, baby

Because we really haven’t in a while, says Phoebe Connelly at The American Prospect. At least, we haven’t talked about it nearly enough on a national scale.

Activists and advocates never dropped the banner. It’s more that the rest of us only rarely took it up, though people are using condoms more lately.

    Safer sex – any kind of exchange of bodily fluids isn’t and can’t be perfectly safe.

  2. Let’s label it correctly–”safer sex”. The average failure rate of condoms is 15% for teenagers and 10% for population as a whole.
    Ten mongamous couples in which one of the partners is HIV positive and which use condoms conscientiously–in 5 years half of the couples will have transmitted the virus to the unaffected partner [Several studies have demonstrated this]
