When Chris Brown broke down at Sunday’s BET Awards while singing Michael Jackon’s “Man in the Mirror,” was it a real display of emotion? Or was it a self-serving display meant to sway? And yeah, we’re sitting in the Judgment Seat here.
And thanks, Bro. Todd, for the link.

It WAS planned ahead that he would sing that particular song. It is a powerful song and I would think in that arena, it might be easy to become emotional. I think it was planned that he would show emotion and along with that, I think it might be likely that some came naturally. That’s my guess.
Having said that, it may be easy to show emotion/shame for his actions, in front of a crowd of those who are apt to judge him. Real change goes way beyond these tears. We’ll see.
And the 2010 Academy Award for best actor goes to…
He can’t sing or dance as well Jackson did…but he punches like Mike Tyson. Like UCONN basketball coach Jim Calhoun said “Not a dime…not a single dime.”
Just for giggles, I posted this on a Courant blog? Phew. People are strange.
How about a link? Or is that against policy?
Not at all: http://blogs.courant.com/overcoming_battered_lives/2010/06/was-it-an-act.html
I have a blog of my own — Fear, Itself — on my newspaper’s web site, and then I’m a contributor to this one. Lately, I’ve been the only contributor, but you may notice the tone of responses are quite a lot more barbed than here.
Thanks for the link. Wow, what a comment trainwreck! (I especially love the ones in text-speak.) So many of them speak of Michael Jackson as if he were a saint; death has apparently rehabilitated his image as well as his sales.
BTW, the Courant’s homepage doesn.t seem to list the battered lives blog, altho it has a link to Fear, Itself.
It seems impossible to find blogs on that site — but if you go to http://blogs.courant.com, you should see all of them (of COURSE sports is at the top).
Because sports is Everything.
That’s actually the URL I was talking about; I meant to say “Courant’s blog homepage”, not “Courant’s homepage”. I don’t see the battered lives blog listed there.
It’s right beneath Helen Ubinas.
Thanks; I’m going to run out and buy some new eyes (and a matching brain) RIGHT NOW!
My grand friend and hiking buddy! I should hate her. She’s younger, prettier, and more talented than I am, yet I — strangely — love her anyway.
I bet she’d say the same of you (except the younger part).
That’s right. Rub it in. People expect us to be at each other’s throats, but I’ve liked her since she was an intern there.
The web page is a trainwreck.
The blog is going to be phased out in July. The newspaper devoted a year looking at domestic violence, after an employee there was killed by her estranged husband. I’ll still post that kind of thing on Fear, Itself, but yeah. Trainwreck is right.
Ok, that explains the absent listing.
I wonder how that set of commenters found your posting anyway. Obsessive googling for Chris Brown? or Michael jackson?
Had to be. I will say this gently, but some of those fine folk need to go out and get a life. Rent one, even.
Wow! It looks like the wrong people are speaking up for that kind of blog.
Yep. It gets a little stunning sometimes. Thanks for your comment there, Jac.
You’re welcome.
So, you knew it was me?
BWAH HA HA. I have ways.
Mostly, I read the email addresses.
On another matter entirely, were you the person who suggested the documentary, “The Cove,” to me?
No, that was not me.
Nertz. I should have kept a list so I could thank people individually. Awesome documentary.
OMG! I just scrolled thru some and man, oh, man are people strange!
I do like your ideeer for business cards, “Susan Campbell, Nobody.”
I liked MJ’s music. What a talent he was. But I don’t love him any more then I love everybody in this life.
I could not say that on the “Fear” site without the fear of being hunted down and beaten to death.
It’s not the most learned of conversations over there, sometimes.
I really need to get out more…
I would think you actually don’t.
