But I encourate you to do so. CTLW sends this, a dissection of the discussion surrounding the 2009 murder of Noor Almaleki at the hand of her father.
As you can see from at least one of the links, this was called an “honor killing,” but the truth may be more complex.
I’m disappointed that no one read this – this is one of the single most important articles I’ve read on this subject.
You mean that no one commented on it?
I did read it. I agree with the writer–slapping any kind of “religious” label on this murder leaves it open for all kinds of attacks by the defense. Murder is murder. (I feel the same way about so-called hate crimes, too, by the way.)
Fathers and daughters and religion:
My guilty pleasure Entertainment Weekly reports that “The brother and father of Afshan Azad, 21, who played Padma Patil in the Harry Potter franchise, were charged June 29 with threatening to kill the actress at their family home in Manchester, England. Abdul Azad, 54, and Ashraf Azad, 28 — who was also charged with assaulting Afshan — were reportedly upset over her relationship with a Hindu man. They are expected to plead not guilty.”
That’s just awful. I’ve only marginally been reading about that and I don’t get it at all.
