  1. Well…obviously the liberal commie socialist Kenyan pinko terrorists at HuffPo aren’t counting CEO salaries in their averages. Their wages went up 15% last year and 28% in 2010.
We have to count the CEOs. Otherwise it’s just another form of discrimination. Diamond Jamie says so.

Cutting back wages, cutting back welfare…food stamps…Medicare…Medicaid…Social Security…this is the only way to incentivize the American people to become more financially responsible. Because we all know who got us into this mess.
Putting more and more money into the pockets of businesses and corporations, bankers, financiers and politicians will inspire Americans to work even harder for their chance at that brass ring.

    God bless America.

  2. Cynical Susan

Over at The New Yorker, James Suroweicki talks about why businesses (which actually do need employees) aren’t hiring. Unfortunately you can’t read the article if you don’t already have a subscription (the general public used to be able to read current stories, I think — dang) — but he says (to REALLY boil it down) “Unemployment isn’t high because businesses are shedding jobs … but because no one’s hiring…. The workers are out there, but companies just aren’t hiring them…. the weakness of the job market has enabled them to adopt very narrow definitions of what count as relevant skills…. Businesses are holding out for a combination of John Nash and John Henry, and then complaining when no one fits the bill…. every company wants skilled workers, but few companies are willing to invest in developing skills…. in a weak economy most companies worry less about getting every possible dollar of new business than they do about keeping costs down. That makes them slow to hire, which keeps unemployment high, which keeps demand weak, which in turn makes employers more reluctant to hire….”

  3. I’m of the TV Generation. Every sarcastic subversive thought I wish to express can be better conveyed through video tape. ;)

    • It’s a generational thing, isn’t it? Do you think the snark will die out in a generation or so? I wonder about myself.
