  1. My father was a teacher years ago, as is my daughter now. People who say that teachers have it easy and don’t work long and hard don’t know what they are talking about.

    That stuff about having summers off and getting paid anyway…. well, it may be handled differently in different places. But my daughter, who teaches in Maryland, has a choice: Have her fixed annual salary spread out over 12 months, or have it spread out over the school year (meaning no paychecks during the summer).

    And an eight hour day for teachers? The SCHOOL day may be shorter, but the work day of a teacher sure as hell isn’t. The protest sign is right.

  2. My mom became a teacher when I was about 7. I, too, know from experience that the teacher’s day doesn’t end until late at night.
