A recent Gallup poll said Americans can countenance a lot of things, but they just over half would consider voting for an atheist or a Muslim. Gays and lesbians fared only slightly better.

I like to be positive about it – the numbers are trending upwards. And, 70% of voters aged 18 – 29 would vote for an atheist.
That’s a better approach. Those numbers are growing.
I like Dan’s positive approach better. I was going to come and make the obvious point that some people are probably lying in the poll because they don’t want to look like, or think of themselves as, bigots.
Which brings up the eternal question of how much can you trust polls, anyway. I like ’em, but I like ’em knowing that it’s incredibly easy to get bad results because people might not tell the truth.
