The church’s House of Deputies — uh — blessed the blessings after an hour of debate at the national convention voted last night.
While church officials said the ceremony is not considered a marriage ceremony, the Episcopal Church became the largest U.S. denomination (so far) to make such a move.
The church elected a gay bishop (for the New Hampshire diocese) in 2003; Gene Robinson is to retire next year, at age 65.
