…a cadre of volunteers are among ’em, searching the byways and highways for people who are sleeping rough, sleeping outside in this awful weather.
The point is to count them (this is the annual Point In Time count), and interview them (this is new), and see what services they need to be housed. These are mostly the chronically homeless, or people who have been on the streets for a year or more, or who have four or more incidences of homelessness in the last three years, and have a disability.
I know I hammer on homelessness on this blog — a lot, but I’m not sorry. If society can be judged by how they treat their most vulnerable, then we have some work to do.
