These kinds of videos are nice. They make us all feel good about ourselves and how we treat our veterans and military personnel in general.
The truth is…after the cameras are turned off…after the cheering crowds go home…after that vet comes home to that loving family…after we’re done patting ourselves on the back for saying “Thank you for your service” and coughing up a free meal at Applebee’s…more often than we’re ready to admit…that vet and that loving family is going to be treated like shit.
Setting aside one day to honor veterans and a few discounts from some retailers doesn’t cut it. Not by a long shot.
I couldn’t agree more, and not to toot my state’s horn (a weird mental picture just dissolved, thank God), we are trying to make sure that veterans are housed, and hired. It’s really the least we can do.
No veteran or veteran’s family should ever want for any form of social security. Housing. Food. Healthcare. Education. Transitional support. Legal representation. Basic income.

And respect. But yes.
It all starts with respect.
