Date rape, any one?

CTixgmAUkAAIrA9Evidently, Bloomingdale has used this ad in their most recent holiday catalogue, and the  chattering class cried foul. Oh, ha, ha! Slip something in your other-sex friend’s drink and then? Let the holiday merriment begin!

Uh, no. As it says here, do not spike your best friends eggnog. Repeat: Do Not.

Jaysus. Thanks, Leftover, for catching this one.

  1. Contrary to what Kenyon College psych professor Sarah Murnen says…
There is no such thing as “benevolent sexism”. That is pure unadulterated 100% straight-from-the-penthouse-corner-office bourgeois BullShit. The exact same bourgeois bullshit that allows a “company of women catering to women” to approve of that type of advertising going in their catalogue.

Sexism…like racism…cannot be mitigated by degrees. That kind of rationalization…that kind of…well…horseshit…is The Reason attitudes…especially media attitudes…do not change.

Shame on Bloomingdale’s. But Murnen needs some serious professional help…or at least a new job. Writing Merry Christmas on cups at Starbuck’s maybe.

  2. OK, a rant is loading……. wait for it (or not, your choice if you want to move along)……..

I am not going to respond to this in some intellectually clean way. There is some (maybe plenty) intellectual commentary about this above. That’s fine, and have at it. I’ve had it with intellectual discussions about this kind of stuff. In my opinion, it is time to start taking names and convicting people.

Me? Well, I’ve got a wife, a daughter and three grand daughters (a son and two grand sons, too, but this topic doesn’t directly address them). I’ve got some bones to pick. I am going to respond to it with something like passion.

OK: There are some assholes on this planet who pray on women. They need to die, and they need to die very soon. There is far too much talk about how they are upset because they don’t “get enough,” or they are not “treated with respect,” or the like. So, the response is to treat women badly?

Isn’t it time to terminate some of those bad actors. I mean, with guns being so prevalent for protection of one’s self and others, maybe some of those aggressive women’s abusers should be visited by armed and angry family members who will stand their ground in defense of their relative or loved one.

I doubt anything like that would occur in Texas or the other states where women often treated are treated like possessions, sex toys and trash, but I suppose it could.

Now, back to the incredibly offensive ad…

Do WHAT to your best friend??!!!???? I will wait for somebody, anybody, to explain to me how this makes sense.

  3. What were they thinking!? The words promote criminal activity. Even without any words, the guy looks like a predator! How is this appealing in any way and what is it even selling? Is this actually an ad?
