Pres. Obama is planning a Thursday town hall meeting to say…something… about guns in America.
In fact, that’s the name of the show, “Guns In America,” and it starts at 8 p.m. on Thursday on CNN.
Gonna watch? Whaddya think he’ll say? Here’s a fact sheet from the White House, if that helps.
Honestly? I’m not that interested. I’ve seen the preview. I’ve listened to GOP candidates soil themselves. The only thing I might find interesting is his justification, in the law, for taking executive action in some cases, (the funding parts cannot escape Congressional involvement…or shouldn’t…but you never know). And? Right now? Broadcast network winter premieres sound more interesting. I’ve also got the two Super Episodes of Luther in my cue.
Besides…if Obama’s simple upgrades to existing law can actually survive long enough to actually be enacted we all know…deep in out hearts…that it’s not going to change a goddam thing. The only people who might actually get anything out of this are firearms manufacturers. Their profits have been going up daily since Obama announced his plan to take executive action.
Don’t get me started…but…a $500 million dollar investment in mental healthcare won’t even open one of the boarded up windows of our completely dilapidated mental healthcare structure. Buy some more drugs to hand out, maybe. Hire a few more crisis line operators, maybe. But please. It will require Congressional approval. He’s not going to get it. Trump might. Hilary won’t. Bernie has the best idea, which means nobody will want anything to do with it. (And I’m not at all happy that Obama has adopted the GOP/NRA position that the epidemic of mass public killings in this country is somehow attributable to the mentally ill.)
It’s a purely political
playploy…partisan political exploitation of tragedy that…I am just sooo tired of I wish the lot of them…Obama included…would just STFU unless they are serious about making a change…making a difference.“(And I’m not at all happy that Obama has adopted the GOP/NRA position that the epidemic of mass public killings in this country is somehow attributable to the mentally ill.)”
Yup. Although….I do suppose it depends on how wide the definition is of “mentally ill.”
