A nice gesture…I suppose…
…but…
What “message of hope” is there in formally acknowledging displaced persons have become so commonplace, so numerous, so inevitable, that those fortunate enough to survive deserve a place in the elitist games of the rich and powerful?
We agree. Having an Olympic team is a great opportunity for these athletes but does having a team like this normalize the notion that some people will be refugees?

I don’t see it.

It promotes a false consciousness: that we’re doing something about the problem when we’re not really doing anything at all.
Only codifying refugee status.
