Is it wrong to call Donald Trump “crazy?”

donald-trumpFormer RI Rep. Patrick Kennedy says yes. He says calling the Republican presidential candidate “crazy”  demeans people who are mentally ill.

Kevin Drum says its OK. He writes, at Mother Jones:

There are lots of words that have both ordinary meanings as well as technical medical meanings. When I say that Donald Trump is a cancer on our society, it’s not an insult to people with leukemia. When I say that Donald Trump is stupid, it’s not an insult to the mentally retarded. And when I say that Donald Trump is crazy, it’s not an insult to people with mental illnesses.

  1. Is it wrong to call Donald Trump “crazy?”
    No.
However, it most certainly is wrong to refer to the developmentally disabled as “stupid” or “retarded.” Kevin Drum has his head as far up his ass as Kennedy has his.

  2. Calling mentally ill people “crazy” is demeaning to them. Calling Donald Trump “crazy” is not. Calling Donald Trump “mentally ill” might be demeaning to the mentally ill however.

  3. It would be wrong to suggest that Trump doesn’t look like the Joker in a Batman movie.
