This happened…

Flying in the face of a 1969 Supreme Court decision that says “Uh…no,” president-elect Donald J. Trump tweeted this out, so I have a few questions for him:

What happens if someone burns a cross? Is that protected speech? No? Please advise.

  1. Information on Virginia v. Black, 538 U.S. 343 (2003) can be found here. More here.

Cross burning is protected speech as a symbolic message of shared ideology. It is not protected when criminal intent (intimidation) can be established.

Info on flag burning here. Protected speech since 1969, as long as it’s your flag. So far.

I really hope the press starts paying more attention to what Trump does rather than what he says. Cabinet selections fer instance. Gatekeeping. Conflicts of interest. Installing his family members as de facto representatives of government policy…nepotism. Profiting from his position. National security issues surrounding his business concerns in foreign countries.

It’s time for journalists to do a little more than monitor the asshole’s Twitter feed. The campaign is over.

    1. Speaking of cabinet appointments, did Romney and Trump really sit down to a dinner of frog legs last night or did somebody drop acid into the water supply? Wasn’t Kerry too French for these people?

And Elaine Chao. Chao, that does’t sound American. We can’t trust someone with Mexican parents to be a judge but we can trust someone with Chinese parents to take care of our roads and bridge? Gee, I don’t know.

      1. They did. Trump, Mittens and Priebus all had a hearty at Jean-Georges in New York. It’s a populist hot spot.

Elaine Chao can be trusted to do exactly what Heritage Foundation power brokers want her to do. Not only is she a bonafide operator, (with more than 30 honorable degrees), but she’s married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who came out strong, if a bit late, in favor of making Trump “the most powerful Republican in America.” Trump may be a political outsider, but he knows how to butter his bread.

Trump has also nominated South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to be UN Ambassador. She’s the daughter of Sikh immigrants from India.

And he’s nominated Seema Verma as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. She worked with Mike Pence on Indiana’s Medicaid expansion model and is president, CEO and founder of SVC, Inc., a health policy consulting firm. She’s also the daughter of Indian immigrants.

How these women of color will be welcomed by Trump’s White Nationalist supporters is anybody’s guess. But you can bet your bottom dollar the Democratic Party will be ready with cuddles aplenty. Lobbyists, too.

  2. You are such a quick thinker susan ! Thank you for being our advocate in the media ! I cant believe we have a president who tweets every thought that comes to his mind at 3am ! Well we are not sleeping either !
