A boycott you can get next to

what_happens_if_you_dont_pay_taxesHere ya go, Leftover: A boycott you can maybe get next to.

From Time.com:

The approximately 65 million Democrats who voted for Hillary Clinton should pledge that in the future if a Republican wins the presidency with fewer votes than a Democrat for the third time in our era, we won’t pay taxes to the federal government. No taxation without representation!

  1. Well…I’m not a big fan of Mark Weston…
I’m all for doing away with the Electoral College, a pro-slave state relic from the antebellum years. But Weston’s half-assed approach is essentially an empty threat. (The Electoral College controversy has nothing to do with “taxation without representation.”) It’s something neither Democrat or Republican politician or operative would ever take seriously. Because it doesn’t demand an actual restoration of democracy. The Electoral College issue is not what robs Americans of their democratic rights. It’s corruption: government sanctioned Economic-Elite Domination/Biased Pluralism that supplants Majoritarian Electoral Democracy/Majoritarian Pluralism. (PDF) Oligarchy.

My suggestion is to do it NOW. No threats. No warnings. No pledges. Just stop. When the government responds, demand politicians take immediate steps to restore Majoritarian Electoral Democracy. It’s a bipartisan action. It’s a common theme within the electorate, as was clearly displayed during this last election.

Get the markets out of government. De-commodify the political sphere. Re-democratize it. The electorate’s confidence in their role in government must be restored. Otherwise strongman types like Trump will continue to dominate politics.
