The Puritan war on Christmas

screen-shot-2016-12-19-at-11-52-27-amPuritans were not ones for ostentatious displays, especially when it came to the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In fact, even a mention of it would get you a fine or worse in early New England. The early Puritans worried that celebrations led to drunkenness and then wanton sex — or Catholicism, which was just as bad. That’s what I glean from what I’ve read on this.

So when some yahoo whines about a war on Christmas, they have no idea. And thanks, Mike the Heathen, for the photo.
