They’re a lovely young couple living with her folks in East Hartford, Conn. They’re ready for a place of their own, and they’d like a diverse neighborhood. Can you help them? I wrote this for NEXT New England. Photo by Ryan Caron King

Give all adoptees all-access
Connecticut has a semi-open policy on giving adult adoptees access to their birth certificates — any one adopted after October 1983 has access, and anyone adopted beforehand does not. The date was arbitrary, and it needs to be abolished. I wrote this for Mother Courant.
We had snow
Snow falls differently for people. There are those who hate it, and hunker down indoors and bemoan the fact that they live in New England (or Minnesota or Ohio, or wherever it snowed) and now sunny Florida (or insert the warm climate of your choice). There are those who resolutely (duty calls!) navigate the dangerous …

From a Center on Budget and Policy Priorities study, as interpreted by Connecticut Voices for Children: Connecticut ranks third in the country, with its richest residents— the top five percent of households— having average incomes 17 times as large as the bottom 20 percent of households and five times as large as the middle 20 percent …

When your state newspaper has to apologize for your behavior…
…you must be pretty bad off. The Portland (Maine) Press Herald has apologized to the nation for their Gov. Paul LePage, who can’t seem to zip his lip and keep his racist comments in his own head. I think this sets a fine precedent. Some weeks back, I went on Twitter and apologized for Connecticut’s …
