Research says there are ways to reduce racism

A series of studies (and thanks, Jac, for sending this link) say that a “brief, frank conversation” is the best go-to to combat racism. It’s a long and interesting article. I don’t embrace all of it but if you have the time or inclination, do read it.

Your friends/family did this. Now what?

So Derrick Lemos wrote this, and it’s food for thought. I have beloved family members who have said they were able to overlook the racist/misogynistic stuff from the Republican candidate and vote for Donald Trump because they believe he will be good for business. I don’t know how you make that distinction. I sure couldn’t.

How racism is killing white people

Jac sends this, an interesting essay by Dr. Anthony Iton. The essay says, in part (and though this is a long piece of it, do click on the link; it’s entirely worth your time): To understand how racism is killing poor whites, you have to understand how racism operates in America. Racism is a system …

How can white people talk to each other about racism?

In short: Get educated Prepare for defensiveness Stay calm Be personal Understand that racism can be subtle You …

Oopsie! Check out this report on white segregated subsidized housing…

IMO …

Aaand another white supremacist is going for Trump

This guy was filmed roughing up black protesters at a Trump rally. Matthew Heimbach has vowed to stay away from any more Trump rallies so that he doesn’t become “a distraction,” but he is not a distraction. He is precisely what Trump’s rallies are all about. Trump has been a stiff shot in the arm to the white …

Does corporate media stoke racist talk and fear-mongering?

If you sat through Tuesday’s Republican presidential debate, then you probably can name the moment the needle went off the meter — during the most racist and ignorant exchanges, of course. So does corporate media (on Tuesday, that was CNN) have a responsibility to not share racist speech and fear mongering? Read this, from which …

On being grateful

Yesterday, I found myself fuming on the inside as I tried to keep smiling on the outside. I get it. This is an attitude I have built for myself. We are in crunch time in my classes. I’m also advising students, who are desperate to get their all-important PIN numbers so they can register for next …
