Yeah. This one’s ours

vSen. Joseph I. Lieberman (Party of One-CT) has vowed he’ll join the Republican filibuster against a public health insurance option.

Long a thorn in the Democrats’ side, the 2000 Democratic vice presidential candidate lost in a 2006 Connecticut Democratic primary election, and then made up a new party (Connecticut for Lieberman), and won his Senate seat back in the general election (after, among other things, he said he supported universal health care).

The lil scamp — who bears a shocking resemblance to:

was quoted as saying:

What I said this morning and what I’ve said to Senator Reid is that I’m inclined to vote for cloture on the motion to proceed to a debate on health care reform, because I believe we need to have a debate on health care reform and I hope to be in a position to vote yes on health care reform. But, I’ve also said that if the current proposal remains as it is unamended, before the final vote on the floor, that I will not vote for cloture.”

Some of us here in the Nutmeg State — some of us — struggle with precisely what to think about Holy Joe. Me, I don’t struggle at all. Bless his lil’ heart.

  1. I “love” that it was Connecticut for Lieberman and not Lieberman for Connecticut. Looks like THAT party has been hijacked, anyway.

  2. He sets up a separate political party and names it for himself?

Ahhhh, humility. Even Ross Perot didn’t have the nerve to do that.

    1. Yeah, and (so it seems to me) the Republicans had a cipher running, so all the Republican money went to Joe and he won the general election. Or — again — so it appeared to me. Somewhere I saw a breakdown of the zipcodes from which his contributions came, and they were high-rent zipcodes.

    2. There’s been some discussion of that in his home state of CT, yes. Bless his limelight-seeking heart.

  3. I’ll trade you Holy Joe for Mad Max Baucus. Anytime.

Obama did not want a public option or anything else in the Senate proposal which might threaten to interrupt the flow of profits to the insurance industry, and his campaign coffers. Reid couldn’t take the heat from his constituents and defied Obama. Within hours the Administration let it be known through it’s principle media advocate Chuck “I used to be a journalist but now I’m a whore” Todd that Reid would get no support from The White House

The administration basically told Reid, “You’re the vote counter. But don’t come crying to us when you need that last vote,” Todd said on MSNBC.

Before the end of the day, another whore, Joe “The DHS loves you guys” Lieberman steps up promising to kill any “public option” the Senate wants to pass with that very vote.
Lieberman’s a tool. An ObamaTool. He’s bargaining for support down the line.
As support for “the public option” (whatever that is) grows in the polls, Obama is desperate to keep anything resembling it out of final consideration in the Senate proposal because he thinks it will make it easier to defeat in the House.
The result will a Senate plan so watered down down it’s barely recognizable or it will be discarded altogether for the sake of Bipartisanshit….ooops…bipartisanshiP….shiP….with a P……
I love Droopy! Another dog metaphor! I’m going to need a kennel.

    1. Yes, he’s bargaining for support down the line, and so where shall I have him shipped in exchange for MMBaucus?

    2. I am informed my use of the term “whore” in the above context is sexist in nature and offensive. And the way the argument was presented compels me to agree with that assessment.
      I apologize.
I wasn’t trying to be offensive, only rude and obnoxious. But it crossed the line.
And on deeper retrospect, I see the term is woefully inadequate to express the low regard I hold for those two men. It will be challenging to discover terminology adequate to the task, but I shall endeavor to persevere until suitably accurate adjectives can be employed.
As always, I am open to suggestions.
“Tool” doesn’t do it for me…………

      1. So because the word “whore” is so widely used now and not limited to describing women, I had to look it up, and yup, Webster’s says “woman.” So I looked up “prostitute,” and that’s more inclusive. But in your usage it wouldn’t have quite the meter. Oh well. I hope you come up with something scathing while acceptable among us genteel folk. It’s always good to have a new word in the chamber.

  4. “Obama did not want a public option or anything else in the Senate proposal which might threaten to interrupt the flow of profits to the insurance industry, and his campaign coffers.”

I want so much not to believe this but I fear you’re right. It kills me. Not that I ever thought he was perfect, but I hoped at least that he had SOME principles.

      1. When I got into my car this morning, I looked at the small version of the Shepard Fairey poster that I have stuck on my car-window, the one that says “Yes We Did,” and I started thinking about removing it. I mean yeah, we did, but to what end?

        1. I think this is a powerful lesson in belief and hope and trust and faith and all that. I believe Obama can make change. I hope I can be part of the crowd encouraging him to do so. I trust he’ll listen and I have faith in myself that if he doesn’t? I and many others will hound him until he does.

          1. “I and many others will hound him until he does.”

I’d like to think the message can get through — but can it really?

          2. I like that!

I called Lieberman’s office this morning and left a message with my view, my request that he support my view, and a request that he get back to me. What the heck. It can’t hurt to ask. I can hound that way.

  5. I Email Mr. L yesterday and told him I was ashamed of him. As a CT Democrat I think he stole his Senate seat, told him that too. I don’t think we’ll become Email buddies. I do expect to get some form Email return thanking me for my opinion~ HA!

    1. Yes, that’s what makes Our Way of Life so great. I got a news-blast from Dodd yesterday, headlined “Good News!,” about the vote — I wrote back “OH yeah, good news for the insurance companies.” I doubt if I’ll get a warm personal response either.

  6. o.o I am officially declaring CT residency (as soon as I can find someone to take me to the DMV–why is it so far away from all the bus routes AND in the middle of nowhere? It’s like they expect you to have a car or something . . .), registering to vote in CT, and voting the mofo out of office.
