  1. “Other preventive services, such as some counseling about sexually transmitted diseases and pelvic exams, didn’t make the cut, either. Nor have the bills protected these services from “cost sharing,” which means that women may well end up paying for much of their birth control out of their own pockets.

“Women’s health advocates reported that some Democrats cited a fear of igniting controversy when asked to insert birth control and other preventive services for women into the minimum benefits package. What’s the controversy, exactly? It seems birth control has become a suddenly loaded political issue, a toxic sister to abortion, somehow resonant of irresponsible sex and women’s bodies. ”

What the hell is going on? “Oh we’re sorry — you have a pre-existing condition. You were born female, so we can’t insure you.”

It’s punishing half the population for being born female. It’s outrageous.

Interesting “On Point” segment today with Ellen Goodman, David Gergin, and Jack Beatty, and the issue about those bishops came up. Someone described Rhode Island’s Patrick Kennedy being told that he’d be refused communion if he voted for this bill or some other that the bishoPRICK opposed.

    1. Refusing communion are they? Jaysus. Kennedy should go somewhere else, to a parish that’s more welcoming, I think. Surely one exists out there. Hell, I can find him one here in Hartford.

      1. Welcoming or no, that’s blackmail. His uncle had something to say about that when he ran for prez, no?

  2. This is not orginal but… If men could get pregnant birth control and abortion would be sacrements!!

    1. Excellent link, Runningforthetrain, and thank you for that. Fortunately, I have lots of age-old anger to aim toward this, but Judith Warner makes an excellent point: Exactly what year is this?

      1. I’ve been spreading it around a little. But have at it.
If I had the money and my own computer I would raise a website called “Kill the Bill” detailing all the reasons this legislation is worse than nothing. And give visitors an opportunity to add their voice to the existential WTF arising from the disinformation, rationalization and downright turd polishing surrounding this Bill.

        1. Turd-polishing. Say goodbye to that one, too. Until you get your own computer, I’m going to mine your wisdom and make it my own, as I have no original thought.

      1. That’ll probably be removed too. After all, producing babies is womens’ only real role, right?

        1. In some circles, yes. But I had no idea that was the commonly-held belief for everyone in Washington.

          1. Well, it’s pretty clear now. All them good ol’ boys just brought their beliefs to town.

                1. I always want to think cooler heads prevail. This is a step, and only a step. It’s not the final destination. It can’t be.
