Since 1991, employees of the Republican National Committee could enroll in an insurance plan that covers abortion. After Politico reported the plan, though, the organization has — uh — optedĀ out. The Republican party strongly opposed insurance covering elective abortions in the most recent health care debates — yet they offered them to their own elite.
Said RNC Chairman Michael Steele:
“Money from our loyal donors should not be used for this purpose. I don’t know why this policy existed in the past, but it will not exist under my administration. Consider this issue settled.”
Do you really think Chairman Steele doesn’t know why such a plan exists? Because I haven’t the heart to sit down and explain it to him.
And thanks, PhDork at The Pursuit of Harpyness, for the link.
Wouldn’t it be nice to see a Republican woman stand up against this?
Yes. It would.
