Darryl Roberts, the documentarian of “America the Beautiful,” is suggesting we boycott the products of Ralph Lauren, for that designer’s ads that severely distort the image of women.
Eh. Well, I don’t have hips either, and I’m far from the sizes of the women on there. I’m tired of that phrase. Some women, no matter how much weight they gain, will not gain hips with a tiny waist.
Plus, all these models do not put a dent in my self-image. It’s the coke-bottle ones that do.
These models just look other-worldly to me, but I recognize the potential of young women everywhere feeling crappy about themselves because they don’t meet this very sick Beauty Ideal.
The problem is that they are photoshopped to *impossible* proportions. Heads bigger than pelvic bones.
They look freakish to me.
